Making a Chicken Coop is a Healthy Choice

We are what we eat....really!

Free Range = Darker Yolks = Better FlavorOverall, registered dietitians have positive things to say about nutrition and eggs.  The facts are eggs have a high nutritional value with a relatively low calorie count (just 70-80 calories each).

More nutrition facts:   Eggs contain about 6-6.5 grams of protein each, and the biological value of egg protein (which indicates the ability of the body to use it) is higher than that of milk, beef, poultry, fish, soybeans, wheat, corn, and rice (Wageningen University, 2009)

Nutrition Facts Eggs:  Free Range Hens Produce Nutritionally Superior Eggs

Mother Earth News conducted an egg testing project in 2007, finding that eggs produced by free-range hens compare favourably with those produced by battery cage hens. Eggs from free range hens had up to:

  • 1/3 less cholesterol
  • 1/4 less saturated fat
  • 2/3 more vitamin A
  • 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids
  • 3 times more vitamin E
  • 7 times more beta carotene

The study involved 14 flocks across the United States whose eggs were tested by an accredited Portland, Oregon, laboratory, and the results were similar to those obtained via a 2005 study of four flocks.

So perhaps you Googled  "How to Chicken Coop" ?  Well Backyard Farmers has made it very easy for your family to get started producing your own eggs.Responsibility. Connection. Years of experience and practice with how to construct a movable chicken coop (and how not to) prompted our team to work with an ex-builder and architect team to design what we believe to be the best movable chicken coop on the market.

Made from sustainably harvested red cedar and topped with a tough, double walled polycarbonate roof designed to let more light in and help keep your hens laying year round (no you don't need a rooster to get each hen to lay an egg a day)

So how to construct a chicken coop in your backyard?    The easiest way is to have Backyard Farmers ship you our custom designed hen house and have us put it together for you - or simply do it yourself - it takes about an hour for two people to assemble our highly functional and attractive movable chicken coop.
