Rainwater Collection Systems - Let mother nature water your garden

Backyard Farmers believes in working with mother nature instead of against it.  All that rainwater that goes racing down a water spout from your roof during a heavy downpour is ideal for storing for another day when moisture is in short supply.  Our raised garden bed dripper systems can also easily be hooked to our rainwater barrels, making for integrated, maintenance-free irrigation and rainwater collection systems.

Each of our rainwater barrels is actually a reclaimed and re-conditioned olive barrel.  Do you enjoy European olives?  Well the barrels those black and green beauties travel the high seas in stay stateside and get re-utilized in their second life as rainwater collection systems. And long term performers they certainly are, with many rainwater barrels still going strong even after fifteen years of service.

Our rainwater collection systems are ideal because they not only catch rainwater for any gardens you care to water, but they can also keep your elevated garden beds moist right through the driest months.  Our optional timer, solar pump and liquid organic fertilizer injector system, all allow you to automate your rainwater collection system and raised garden bed dripper as much or as little as you want.  One of the other great things about rainwater for your vegetable gardens is this keeps chlorine and other water treatment chemicals out of your gardens.  Chlorine is no friend to any living thing.

So in addition to the re-claimed materials and longevity, what else makes Backyard Farmers rainwater barrels special?   One word:  Simplicity.  With our special rainwater diverter downspout attachment, rainwater barrels are first filled and then any overage of water simply runs out over your barrel to the lawn or surrounding bed areas, or even to a French drain area to absorb the excess.  The barrels can also be hooked together in tandem for extra rainwater storage capacity.  We recommend starting with one barrel for each downspout and then adding more as you see fit.
